Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Adapt to different contexts.
    • Have developed a high degree of independence to acquire additional knowledge and new skills to evolve in different contexts.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Learn basic particle physcis via its experimental aspects  :  fundamental constituents and their interactions; symmetris and conservation laws, via a description of different experiments and explanation of  the corresponding results.

Content of UE

Course
Reminders, Introduction, Theoretical Basis - Accelerators and detectos - Historical discoveries - Matter particles: leptons  & quarks - Interactions : description & unification - Symmetries & conservation laws

Labs
- operation of a cloud chamber
- operation of a cosmic ray telescope
- analysis of particle collision events (bublle chambers,  LEP and LHC events)
- recap on accelerators  & experiments,  particles and  interactions
