Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.
  • Conduct extensive research and development projects related to biological sciences, in biochemistry and in molecular and cell biology.
    • Apply, mobilise, articulate and promote the knowledge and skills acquired in order to help lead and complete a project.
    • Contributing to a project by mastering its complexity and taking into account the objectives, allocated resources and constraints that characterise it.
    • Show initiative and be able to work independently and in teams.
  • Manage and lead research, development and innovation projects.
    • Understand unprecedented problems in biological sciences, and more specifically in biochemistry and molecular and cell biology and its applications.
    • Organise and lead a research, development or innovation project to completion.
    • Methodically research valid scientific information, critically analyse, propose and argue potentially innovative solutions to targeted problems.
  • Master communication techniques.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
    • Adapt their communication to a variety of audiences.
    • Master the techniques of written and oral scientific communication in both French and English.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Aquire new knowledge independently.
    • Pursue further training and develop new skills independently.
  • Apply scientific methodology.
    • Critically reflect on the impact of their discipline in general, and on the contribution to projects.
    • Demonstrate thoroughness, independence, creativity, intellectual honesty, and ethical values.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this training, the students will be able to :

- design a study protocol for a risk evaluation by a metabonomic  approach
- prepare an injectable solution and calculate the quantities/volumes as a function of the animal weight
- give a solution/suspension by the major routes od administration
- collect biofluids (blood and urine) from animals in metabolism cages
- prepare the samples of biofluids for spectroscopic analysis
- use softwares for treatment of spectra (Mestrec) and multivariate data analysis (SIMCA -P+)
- interprete metabonomic data from a biological point of view

Content of UE

- conduction of a metabonomic study on rodents in metabolism cages
- manipulation, housing, and treatment of the animals
- preparation of the study protocol
- collection and preparation of biofluids samples
- treatment and interpretation of data
