Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.
  • Master communication techniques.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
    • Master the techniques of written and oral scientific communication in both French and English.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Aquire new knowledge independently.
    • Pursue further training and develop new skills independently.
    • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy to evolve in new contexts.
  • Apply scientific methodology.
    • Critically reflect on the impact of their discipline in general, and on the contribution to projects.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this course, students will have a general knowledge of all experimental approaches to art related to biology and their potential

Content of UE

- Physicochemical approaches associated with peptides / proteins (Prof. R. Wattiez, Dr. B. laurent)
- Imaging (light and electron microscopy, immunocytochemistry ..) (Dr. P. Flammang)
- Associated Approaches to Molecular Biology (Dr. F. Coppée)  - Approaches related particularly to small molecules / peptides (NMR, Phage display ..) (Dr. S. Laurent)

Prior Experience

Notions of Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Chemistry

Type of Assessment for UE in Q1

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Oral examination

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

Each student will be assessed on oral presentation of an article focusing on one or several novel experimental approaches in the world of biology. The evaluation will be based on:

- The quality of oral presentation (efficiency of scientific communication (weighted 30%)
- Mastery of concepts and methods discussed in the course (weighted 30%)
- Answers to specific questions presented and the section of general biology (weighting: 40%)

Type of Assessment for UE in Q3

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Oral examination

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

Each student will be assessed on oral presentation of an article focusing on one or several novel experimental approaches in the world of biology. The evaluation will be based on:

- The quality of oral presentation (efficiency of scientific communication (weighted 30%)
- Mastery of concepts and methods discussed in the course (weighted 30%)
- Answers to specific questions presented and the section of general biology (weighting: 40%)
