Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.
  • Manage and lead research, development and innovation projects.
    • Understand unprecedented problems in biological sciences, and more specifically in biochemistry and molecular and cell biology and its applications.
    • Organise and lead a research, development or innovation project to completion.
  • Master communication techniques.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
  • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
    • Aquire new knowledge independently.
  • Apply scientific methodology.
    • Demonstrate thoroughness, independence, creativity, intellectual honesty, and ethical values.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the course, students will know the basic principles that link the dose and the effect of a drug. In particular, they will master the principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and the therapeutic use of drugs. In addition, they will be able to understand and put into practice pharmacokinetic equations and quantitative analysis of drug-receptor interactions.

Content of UE

Pharmacokinetics: Absorption; Distribution; Metabolism; Excretion; non-, one- or multi-compartmental kinetics
Pharmacodynamics: drug classification; stereospecificity; dose - response relationship; agonism - antagonism; selectivity; receptor; receptor sparing and reserve
Other: response variability; drug interaction; placebo; tolerance, dependence; drug development

Prior Experience

Biochemistry of the cell, membrane structure and transmembrane passage, physiology (including liver and kidney), handling of mathematical equations,
