Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Design, evaluate and optimise solutions addressing the problem
    • Implement a chosen solution in the form of a drawing, a schema, a plan, a model, a prototype, software and/or digital model
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in science and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain the basic principles of engineering particularly in their specialising field
    • Understand laboratory techniques: testing, measuring, monitoring protocol, and security
    • Select and rigorously apply knowledge, tools and methods in sciences and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports

Learning Outcomes of UE

Establish an analytical model of the studied electrical machines taking into account eddy current, magnetic and mechanical power losses. Understand and exploit the main electrical and mechanical characteristics of the machines. Master the various standardized tests of measurement of the key characteristics and parameters. Predetermine important quantities such as supplied or absorbed power, electromagnetic and mechanical torques, speed and efficiency of the machine.

Content of UE

single-phase and three phase circuits; transformers: under no load and load conditions, as well as in short circuit; asynchronous machines in steady-state: balance of power, electromagnetic torque, circle diagram, speed-torque characteristic, slip, efficiency, influence of rotor resistance, frequency and stator voltage.

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

Written report of pratical works (weighting: 10% of the score). Marked exercise on practical works (weighting: 20%, maximum duration: 2h). Written examination (weighting: 70%; maximum duration: 2h30). The examination consists of questions of theory, reflection and exercises on all the matter to determine if the student has a general overview of the course and if he masters it.

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

Written report of pratical works (weighting: 10% of the score). The mark obtained in Q2 is automatically reported. Written examination (weighting: 90%; maximum duration: 2h30). The examination consists of questions of theory, reflection and exercises on all the matter to determine if the student has a general overview of the course and if he masters it.
