Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Understand the stages of an engineering approach
    • Identify and describe the problem to be solved and the functional need (of the project owner) to be met considering the state of technology
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in arts, science, engineering and construction to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain the basic principles of engineering sciences and construction
    • Understand laboratory techniques: testing, measuring, monitoring protocol, and security
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
    • Identify and appropriately implement the different ways of working in a group
  • Communicate in a structured way - visually, orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, and reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade a project owner, teachers and a board orally, with visual aids and in writing
    • Use several methods of written and graphic communication: text, tables, equations, sketches, maps, graphs, etc.
    • Give an effective oral presentation, using presentation materials appropriately
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Identify the different fields and participants in architectural engineering
    • Demonstrate self-awareness, asses themself, and develop appropriate learning strategies.
    • Develop scientific and cultural curiosity and open-mindedness
    • Learn to use various resources made available to inform and train independently

Learning Outcomes of UE

Understanding the properties and uses of building materials from a technical and technological point of view;Assessment of the use of building materials in a given context, including with regard to their environmental impact.Interpretation of technical documents and available standards.

Content of UE

Wood and timber based materials (cross laminated timber, glulam and engineered wood products). Properties, classification, manufacturing and uses; Durability od concrete and specific applications. Terracotta (bricks, tiles, expanded clay, ceramics) manufacturing, and insulating properties and uses.Glass: production, classification, uses); Comparative overview of materials as solution of a building problem: introduction to  of life cycle analysis and bio-based materials. Repositories for LCA analysis (VALIDEO, BREAM, Bauw Book, INIES ...).
