Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Implement an engineering approach dealing with a set problem taking into account technical, economic and environmental constraints
    • Identify and acquire the information and skills needed to solve the problem
  • Understand the theoretical and methodological fundamentals in science and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
    • Identify, describe and explain basic scientific and mathematical principles
    • Select and rigorously apply knowledge, tools and methods in sciences and engineering to solve problems involving these disciplines
  • Collaborate, work in a team
    • Interact effectively with other students to carry out collaborative projects.
  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade customers, teachers and a board both orally and in writing
    • Give an effective oral presentation, using presentation materials appropriately
    • Present analysis or experiment results in laboratory reports
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Develop their scientific curiosity and open-mindedness

Learning Outcomes of UE

Not applicable

Content of UE

basic methods in the following topics : interpolation and regression, numerical derivation and integration methods, methods for linear systems, methods for ODE.

Prior Experience

Mathematics for engineers 1 and 2 (analysis 1 et 2, algebra 1 and 2)

Type of Assessment for UE in Q1

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Oral examination
  • Written examination
  • Practical test
  • Graded tests

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

The final grade (/20) is based on three grades:
- a grade A (/20) to evaluate the ability to solve exercises during a written exam
- a grade B (/20) to evaluate the theoretical understanding of the course during a written and/or oral exam
- a grade C (/20) to evaluate the ability to implement algorithms during an oral exam and/or practical work

The computation of the final grade is done as follows:
If the three grades A, B, and C are greater than or equal to 7 (that is, at least 7/20, or 35% in all three parts), then: finalgrade = (7*A + 8*B + 5*C) / 20.
If one of the three grades A, B or C is less than 7, then the final grade will be equal to the minimum grade, that is: finalgrade = minimum(A, B, C).
