Learning Outcomes of UE

Understand how classical applications work (web, mail, DNS, ...) ;
Specify, simulate, implement and use network protocols ;
Understand the network stack model and the services offered at each layer.

Understand how computer networks are organized in the Internet.

Understand, model and analyse a transport protocol.
Understand, model and analyse a routing protocol.
Understand the architecture of a networking equipment (host, router, switch).

Understand, apply and interpret computer network performance metrics.

Prior Experience

Knowledge of a high-level programming language (Java, C, Python) and the object-oriented paradigm. <b>Projects to complete during the laboratories assume this knowledge !!!</b> Knowledge of operating systems and computer architecture.

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Oral examination

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

Oral exam 70%, Lab sessions 30%.
The lab sessions only take place once during the year. It is not possible to repeat the lab sessions. As a consequence, if the student does not participate, he fails without possibility of a 2nd examination assessment. Only the oral part of the examination can be taken during the 2nd examination session assessment.
