Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Communicate in a structured way - both orally and in writing, in French and English - giving clear, accurate, reasoned information
    • Argue to and persuade customers, teachers and a board both orally and in writing
    • Use the English language to "advanced independent user" level, equivalent to B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Demonstrate thoroughness and independence throughout their studies
    • Demonstrate self-awareness, asses themself, and develop appropriate learning strategies.
    • Develop their scientific curiosity and open-mindedness
    • Learn to use various resources made available to inform and train independently

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this course, the student will be able to understand texts at level B1+, and listenings at level B1+ in contexts relevant to the career of an engineer.

Content of UE

- Revision of the basic structures of the English language. - Strenghtening and development of reading and listening comprehension skills. - Individual activities 

Prior Experience

Students will have to take a placement test in order to be placed in the adapted level group.  The students whose level is inferior to A2 will have to attend remedial classes organized by the Centre of Modern Languages.

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

- Assessment  of individual activities (test) :( 30%). If the student does not score a minimum of 10/20, he/she will have to resit this test as part of  the June written exam.  Written examination (70%)  composed of a listening and a reading comprehensions at level B1+ as well as questions on grammar and vocabulary.  Account for 65 % of the final grade.

Written examination composed of a listening and a reading comprehensions at level B1+ as well as questions on grammar and vocabulary.   + assessment of the individual activities if the student didn't score 10/20 in Q2.
