Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out computer and management engineering missions, using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques specific to computer management engineering.
    • Identify and discuss possible applications of new and emerging technologies in the field of information technology and sciences and quantifying and qualifying business management.
  • Communicate and exchange information in a structured way - orally, graphically and in writing, in French and in one or more other languages - scientifically, culturally, technically and interpersonally, by adapting to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
    • Use and produce scientific and technical documents (reports, plans, specifications) adapted to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
  • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out computer and management engineering missions, with a focus on Innovation and Information Systems, using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques related to the improvement of decision and management processes, mastery of mathematical modelling and optimisation algorithms, analysis of large volumes of data, mastery of Web and multimedia tools, design and operation of distributed and mobile computing systems, management of a software project, innovative management of a company and/or project team, information systems (data mining, database, cloud computing, etc.) and management of technological innovation.

Learning Outcomes of UE

- understand the status of the current telecommunication industry;
- set qualitatively the role of each element in the global transmission chain;
- identify the perturbators sources (channel, noises, distortions);
- estimate and compare the different modulation (analogue and digital) and coding options in a concrete case;
- quantify the point-to-point digital link efficiency for several reliable transfer mechanisms;
- acquire a long lasting 'telecommunication spirit' and orders of magnitude;
- identify the various components of a network;
- understand the role and operation of each element and evaluate their advantages and limitations;
- understand the advantage of the various tools available for the analysis of the networks performances.

Content of UE

- Telecommunications introduction;
- Constitutive elements of a transmission chain;
- Analogue telecommunications;
- Baseband or bandpass digital telecommunications;
- Design of a link;
- Multiplexing;
- Reliable data block transfer;
- Architecture of commutation networks (paquet switching versus circuit switching); Internet.
- Applications protocols (HTTP, DNS, DHCP, ...).
- Transport protocol ; UDP ; TCP.
- Interconnexion: IP & ICMP, routing protocols, MPLS;
- Data link: LAN (802.3, 802.2, 802.11, switches), WAN (frame relay, ATM), point-to-point link
