Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out electrical engineering missions, using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques specific to electrical engineering.
    • Identify and discuss possible applications of new and emerging technologies in the field of electrical engineering.
    • Assess the validity of models and results in view of the state of science and characteristics of the problem.
  • Communicate and exchange information in a structured way - orally, graphically and in writing, in French and in one or more other languages - scientifically, culturally, technically and interpersonally, by adapting to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
    • Use and produce high-quality scientific and technical papers (reports, plans, specifications, etc.), adapted particularly to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
    • Master technical English in the field of electrical engineering.

Learning Outcomes of UE

This course aims to: (1) Provide a comprehensive coverage of digital communication systems focused on access networks technologies ; (2) Understand each advanced functionnality of the unified block diagram of a digital communication system physical layer ; (3) Design a communication link with a targeted quality (SNR, bandwidth, bit rate).

Content of UE

Evolution and main characteristics of access networks; OFDM modulation to be used in the frame of fading, dispersive and impulsive channels (wireless, xDSL, PLC, …); Performance parameters of a link (SNR, MER, EVM, PAPR) and diagnosis tools; Spread spectrums and applications; Advanced access methods (CDMA, OFDMA); MIMO communications; Principles of channel equalization; Channel coding (RS, LDPC, concatenated codes) and interleaving; Introduction to communications for automotive and automation systems.

Prior Experience

Basic of digital communications : channel coding, baseband transmission, modulation (ASK, PSK, FSK, QAM), BER calculation in AWGN, performance parameters (BER, eye diagram, SNR), Nyquist ISI, capacity of a channel.
